Sahtainالعربية

Arabic first. Built for Saudi Arabia.

Honest calories for the food you actually eat.

Photograph a meal and Sahtain reads it against curated Saudi and Gulf food data, then shows you a calorie range. Where a source publishes no figure, you see a dash. Never a number we invented to fill the gap.

We store the address and the language you read this in, nothing more. Details in the privacy policy.

Coming to the App Store and Google Play.

A range, because a plate is never twice the same. Every figure carries the source it came from.

The honest bit

Three things Sahtain will not do.

Each of these is checked by the build. They are not a statement of intent; they are conditions the app has to satisfy to ship.

  • Never a calorie number more precise than the truth

Food varies. The same plate of kabsa is not the same twice, and a photograph cannot know how much oil went in. So Sahtain shows a range. There is no single-number view to switch to, because the app has no field to put one in.

A range is the only calorie type the API can return.

  • The price is visible before you make an account

The plan, the price and what the free tier includes are on this page and on the first screen of the app, before any sign-up. Nothing about cost is behind a form.

The plans endpoint is public and a test fails if that changes.

  • Never a claim about how accurate we are

No percentage, no "AI-precise", no promise about your body or your weight. If that copy ever appears in the app, this site or the store listing, the build stops.

A build step scans the shipped copy for it.

How it works

Three taps from a plate to a diary entry.

Photograph the meal

Point the camera or pick a photo. Sahtain matches it against a curated table of Saudi and Gulf dishes and shows the calorie range with protein, carbohydrate and fat. Adjust the portion with a stepper, or pick a different match.

Your photo is handed to the model and dropped. Only a small thumbnail stays in your diary.

Photograph the meal

Food that is on your table

Kabsa, mandi, jareesh, saleeg, matazeez, harees, tameez. Hundreds of dishes curated from published Saudi and Gulf food composition data, each carrying the source it came from. Albaik and Mama Noura menu items too.

Barcode scanning for packaged food is free and unlimited, always.

Food that is on your table

A day, a week, a plan

See what is left today across calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat. Follow weight over a week or a month against the goal that applied then. My Plan proposes tomorrow’s meals from what you already log.

In Ramadan the day changes shape: suhoor and iftar are real slots, not meals squeezed into breakfast and dinner.

A day, a week, a plan

Made here

Built for Saudi Arabia, not translated into it.

A foreign tracker with an Arabic language pack knows neither the food nor the day. These are the differences you notice in the first week.

  • Arabic is the first language

Not a layer over an English app. Every screen lays out right to left in Arabic, in a typeface chosen for the script rather than one that merely covers it.

  • Suhoor and iftar are real meal slots

During Ramadan the diary’s day changes shape on its own. Your meals are not forced into breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • Every number has a source

Dishes are curated from published food composition tables, and each row records where its figures came from. Where a table publishes no carbohydrate or fat, the app shows a dash.

  • Your day, on Riyadh time

Which day a meal belongs to is decided on your phone, so a 21:30 dinner is tonight’s dinner and not tomorrow’s breakfast.

Questions

The things people ask first.

Why a range instead of one number?

Because a photograph cannot tell how much oil went into the pot, and the same dish is not the same twice. Every app in this category faces that; most round it to one confident-looking figure. A range is what the underlying food data actually supports, and Sahtain has no way to display anything else.

What happens to the photo I take?

It is sent to the model that reads it and then dropped. It is not stored on our side and it is not used to train anything. A thumbnail small enough to recognise the meal stays in your own diary on your device.

Is there a free version?

Yes, and it is not a countdown. Barcode scanning and manual logging are unlimited and always free, along with your diary, your goals and your weight history. The free tier includes three meal photos a day. Sahtain Plus removes that daily cap.

Does it work for food that is not Saudi?

Yes. The curated Saudi and Gulf table is what makes it unusual, but it also reads packaged products by barcode and covers a large reference database of everyday foods.

Can I use it in English?

Yes. The app ships in Arabic and English, and you change language in settings. Arabic is the default because that is who it is built for.

When does it launch?

iOS first, in Saudi Arabia, with Android to follow. Join the waitlist above and you will hear on the day, and not before.

Be told when it launches.

One email when Sahtain reaches the store. Nothing else, and no sharing with anyone.
